Reminder: As we talked about Friday during our Zoom chat, I will need to switch the time for Monday's zoom chat to 11:00am (just tomorrow, Monday, April 27). Every other day will be our normal, 10:00am time. Please log into the Zooms each day to hear our read aloud of Masterminds and to take part in our class lessons and discussions. On Monday, I will be going over and explaining our Social Studies/Writing project for the week, as well as your Reading Game project. Tuesday, I'll be talking about your Science assignment. And Wednesday, I'll be introducing a fun Math assignment. Thursday will be the last time to ask me any questions to make sure you know what you are doing for your weekly projects. All work is due by Saturday at midnight, but it is better if you do it on the day it's assigned throughout the week, so your work is spread out. No one likes having a giant list to catch up on each Friday.

Please log into our daily Zoom chats EVERYDAY at 10:00am. In addition to our read aloud of Masterminds, we will be doing a class lesson each morning. These lessons during Zoom will set you up for one of your daily lessons each day. We will do Zoom lessons Monday through Thursday, and read Masterminds Monday through Friday.
Here is our weekly schedule. For details and directions on EACH lesson, see the daily posts under the Digital Learning tab above. In the past few weeks, County County schools has been working on their policies regarding grades for 4th quarter. YES, your child WILL be receiving grades for 4th quarter. A message was sent out last week regarding how grades would be handled in the county, but left some discretion to each school. Today Ms. Nelson has released Acworth's official policy on grades for 4th quarter. That is pictured below.
The important points (plus my additions) to be noted are as follows:
Ms. Bohm First and foremost, our Zoom chats 🙂 . Since they seem to be the favorites. Today we will start our new book, Masterminds. However, I need to start our meeting 15 minutes LATE today due to a meeting I have at 9:30. Our zoom chat today will start at 10:15am. Log in is still the same. Remember that you need to have your device labeled as YOUR NAME. If you have some silly name, I will NOT let you into the meeting from the waiting room. And if you get there too late, I'll likely be reading and not looking at the screen to see that you are in the waiting room. Meeting starts at 10:15am today! For today, we will be using 2 new programs. The first you will get to through Clever, which means there is no additional login needed. This is FIRST IN MATH, which you will use for your Math assignment. You will complete 3 activities on FIRST IN MATH, see the directions on the Digital Learning tab for today's date for which ones. I provided screenshot pictures to show you what it should look like. The second is MOBYMAX, which you will use for your Science assignment. Directions about how to login to MOBYMAX are listed on that same post on the Digital Learning tab. Message me if you still have questions. There are several activities in MOBYMAX waiting for you. Spent AT LEAST an hour on them, which should mean you complete at least ONE (and know that I can see what you work on and for how long!). Remember that ALL assignments are due by Saturday at midnight. Tomorrow (Friday) is not a day during which lessons will be assigned, but if you have not completed the work for the week, you should be using tomorrow to catch up. I will be messaging out sometime tomorrow to let you know who has missing assignments, and I will be going back to the week BEFORE Spring Break. Just because the week has passed does not mean it disappears! I will be sending out information tomorrow regarding grades for 4th quarter and other questions parents and students have asked that I've been able to get answered. I don't have answers to everything, but as I get information I will be sharing it with you. Good morning! I hope everyone is enjoying their "Spring Break". I'm sure that many of you, like me, had other plans for what you'd be doing this week. I wasn't happy when my phone reminded me earlier this week that we were supposed to be boarding a flight to go visit my father...but that trip will have to wait until the Fall! Literally, better safe than sorry!
I just had a few quick things to pass along before we start back up again with school next week.
3. I will NOT be Zoom chatting with the kids on Sunday. I will be enjoying Easter with my family and attending online church services at that time. 4. I sent out messages earlier this week to folks who did not have their work finished from last week. The daily work is due each week by Saturday at midnight. I should be able to see your completed work by then, and I AM CHECKING! If you are not doing virtual work, then you should be checking in to me DAILY to report in on what you are completing. If I have not heard from you nor seen your virtual work, I can only assume you are not doing your school work!!! You need to keep your brains active and continue preparing for 6th grade! 5. Speaking of work...I'm sure no one wants work right now...but if you want something for your child to do, I'm attaching a COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY packet of math activities to the Digital Learning tab. Remember that there's lots of other RESOURCES you can find above too. Happy Easter and I'll be back in touch on Sunday evening. Good morning. I don't come to you this morning with many more answers. And after the message that the county sent out yesterday afternoon, I'm sure you only have more questions. Here's what I can tell you:
I’m sure that you have all heard the news by now. The governor has closed all schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. All learning will be completed digitally for the remainder of the year. This week is still our trial run, but we are learning a lot. So when we return from a week off for Spring Break, we’ll all be experts…maybe 😊.
First thing’s first: I need to delay our Zoom chat tomorrow (Thursday) to 10:30am. I need to participate in another chat at 9:30 and I’m afraid it will run over our normal 10am meeting time. So we will start our meeting at 10:30 tomorrow (Thursday). Second, if you are in Target, remember that tomorrow (Thursday) you need to go to Ms. Myer’s page and do whatever she assigns you in place of your Reading assignments on Freckle. The assignments will wait there for you until you have Reading again the week after break. Your Social Studies is not required for you, Target students, tomorrow. But if you have extra time on Friday or the next week of school, I’d suggest you look over the Social Studies Weekly and the articles I assigned so you will still know the material. Third, Math team has a virtual competition tomorrow (Thursday) at 2:30pm. I was asked to remind my Math team students of this. Lastly, there are 2 students who still need to complete the ELA/Reading pre-test and 7 who need to complete the Math. Please try to get those done as quickly as possible, since they will determine your levels for future assignments. Keep sending me those writing assignments. So far, I have received about half of them. I will read over them tomorrow and respond back to you. Several of you have asked questions about things like grades, supplies left at school, yearbooks, refunds for the Tellus field trip. I will be honest in that I don’t have a lot of answers right now. I will contact Ms. Nelson first thing in the morning, and as soon as I have answers I will pass them onto you. And in case your kids ask about Calm Down bottles, which we talked about today on our Zoom chat: I will still set up a time to make the bottles with those who had not made them yet. But it looks like I will have to wait until the Shelter in Place is over before I can deliver those to the students whose bottles I have and those we’ll make. Well, it's no April Fool's Joke! We're still stuck/safe at home. This is our reality. Honestly, it's more like the move Groundhog's Day than the current holiday 🙂! 19th day, same as the 1st...a whole lot louder and a whole lot worse!
But seriously, I hope that you have fallen into a rhythm with your family that is helping you get through this time of "uncharted waters". Since we've been having dinner at and game night at the table every evening, I started the idea of having a Thankful Jar (for us a box). On the kitchen table, there is now a container, small squares of paper, and several pens. When we talk about our day at dinner, if there's something we're grateful to have or have had the chance to do during this time, we write it down and add it to the box. For example, I have been able to take a walk each morning as my two youngest go running (they set up a workout plan!!!). We would never have been able to do that before in our hustle and bustle of our busy lives! On days when we're just feeling the tedium of this situation, we can take out a paper and it will remind us of the positives of the situation we're in. We haven't had to do that yet, but I know the day is coming 😉. Just remember that with everything going on around us, you need to take time for yourselves. Right now, we parents are carrying a heavy burden of trying to hold it all together, while also trying to navigate this unknown territory. Even if it's just 5 minutes of alone time, remember to take care of you...so you can take care of them! (And you can tell them that Ms. Bohm said to leave you alone during that time!!!) |
