Before I put in our weekly assignments, I want to say THANK YOU again to my wonderful parents and students. I received ALL of the technology surveys back. You are AMAZING! Other teachers are struggling to hear back from their families, and I get ALL of your responses AND get to see about 2/3 of the class EVERY DAY on video chat. You guys are making this work, for me and your kids!
Here is the weekly schedule for this week's assignments. Normally, you could sit down and do them all and be done in one (really long) sitting. But this week, there are two pretests, one in reading and one in math. I need to get the results of those before I can assign the reading and math assignments for the end of the week. So you can do Monday through Wednesday, and Social Studies and Science for Thursday and Friday. But you'll need to hold off about a day after completing the 2 pretests before I'll have the other Reading and Math activities assigned. I will create a new tab on the blog to attach directions for specifically HOW to get into each of these programs and how to find your daily assignments. Once you've learned to log in once, you likely won't need to reference this information again. Remember that all assignments are due by midnight on Saturday. And Target students should do Ms. Myer's work on Thursday...but if they have extra time in the week, we HIGHLY encourage them to do the social studies so they don't miss out on the information others are being exposed to. As always, PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me with ANY questions. I'll be around (where else would I go???). And our daily chats with continue each day at 10am. First we'll read, then I'll answer any questions about your work.

WARNING...long message, but worth the read to the end! Good afternoon, It's been so great to see all of the kids when they are able to log in and join us on Zoom. I know some of you have had issues with not being able to get in. I don't really have solutions, just suggestions.
Today was the last day of the 2 week packet we sent home. By this evening, your child should be finished with all of the activities in the packet. Many of you have been AMAZING about checking in daily to tell me that you've finished the day's activities. Some have been sporadic and I've heard from you on and off. There's a few that I have barely heard from or not at all. Tonight or this weekend, please send me a summary message to let me know that your child HAS completed the entire packet. Or, be honest, it's not finished yet but it will be completed by the time we return to school. I WILL collect these packets so I'd like to have everyone turn in their's completed. "School" changes slightly starting next week. On Sunday, I will send you out a weekly schedule of what you will be doing each week. This will be a condensed version to let you plan out your week. The expectation is that each day will be about 2 hours worth of work. That is an averaged time. So some days it might take an hour and 15 minutes, while others may take 2 and half. And it might take a different amount of time for different people. Thanks to ALL of you who filled out the technology survey, I am able to plan accordingly knowing that some of your households are sharing 1 or 2 devices among 4-5 people. This weekly schedule will hopefully allow you to look at what your child needs to do for the week, along with what their siblings need to do, and maybe find a way to share out the devices as needed. ALL assignments for the week will be due by the following Saturday night (so the assignments for next week will be due by midnight on Saturday, April 4th. You and your child can choose to do them as laid out in the weekly schedule or knock them all out in one long day of learning and working. This is going to be up to you and your family, especially those who are sharing devices and might find the clumped version easier. For those of you who listed that you have had difficulty getting work completed due to lack of technology, we can have a packet printed out and available for pickup each Monday morning at Acworth during the MUST ministries distribution from 11am-1pm. But I need to know IN ADVANCE who would need these. FYI: The packet WILL NOT be the same work as the students will be doing during virtual learning. The virtual learning will be tailored to their needs, their levels, and what is best for each of them to be working on. The virtual learning will also be more of what our class is ready to work on in social studies and science. Whereas the packet is a generic 5th grade packet and will mostly be review activities, nothing new and nothing personalized. If at all possible, it would be best for all students to do the online work, as it will be much closer to what we would be able to do in school. Again, I understand if you child does not have the technological access to complete the online learning. I just need to know ASAP so I can have a packet printed for them. As I said, the packets can ONLY be picked up Monday mornings from 11am-1pm at Acworth. If none of these options work for you, then please message me so I can try to figure out a Plan C option for your family. To recap:
Ms. Bohm 🙂 Parents,
As we are reaching the end of the 2 week packet of work we sent home, we (the 5th grade teachers) have been working to figure out how we will continue this distance learning. We need to determine the technology access that your child has at home in order to know the best way to go about this. Please take a minute or two and fill out this google form to let me know what technology access you have available for your child at home. If at all possible, could you please fill out the form by tomorrow night (Thursday night). It should only take you 2 minutes to answer. https://forms.gle/63gHq3E3nQqyDiks5 Thanks...and more info to come about next week. Susan Bohm Hello Parents, My name is Jennifer Peck and I am your child's Art Teacher at Acworth Elementary School. We know how hard all of you have been working to adapt to this new learning model at home, and let me tell you, YOU ARE DOING AN AMAZING JOB!!! The Specialists team and I have been doing our best to get work out to your students also, but with all of us using different platforms, we don't feel like we were reaching everyone. So this weekend we all decided to come together on on Flipgrid. If you are not familiar with the website, Flipgrid is free and easily accessible from your home computer or phone.
It's that simple!!! At school your child went to a different special everyday, so expect a new assignment from each specialist once a week. Some specialist may post more, but just try to get your child to do 1 assignment each from Art, Music, STEM, PE, Technology and Math Lab on a weekly basis. For example, because there are 6 specials your child may do something like this...Mon: Art & Music, Tues: PE, Wed: Tech, Thurs: Math Lab, Fri STEM...Do what works for you and your child! We look forward to seeing all of your students, and the amazing things they are working on! Please feel free to email any of us with questions! Our emails are listed on the Acworth website. Best regards, Jennifer Peck Art Teacher Acworth Elementary School From our fabulous Acworth Counselors: Please let parents know they can visit our website where there is a list of resources out there if they are in need:

I will also add another tab across the top with all of the resources I have and will share out in the future. This will keep them all in one place for you and the kids to find. In that same tab, I will attach the files for the packet, as well as any future work that we get together for next week (and beyond). I'll leave you today with a video Mrs. Payne put together, "AES Works from Home". Enjoy...and watch for me...and us! (click on the button below) |
