I hope that you and your family enjoy a restful week together next week to celebrate Thanksgiving. I’ll be at home completing lots of home project. But I’m so grateful to have this time to spend with my family. Your children should have brought home a Thanksgiving project (a packet with green paper). This is the start of a Pay it Forward project which we will continue at school when we return to school. Please help encourage your children to complete the project and do their best to show kindness to others. I can’t wait to see all of the ways which the children share their gratitude and blessings with others! We will take a field trip to see the Nutcracker ballet on December 8. The kids are so excited to enjoy this Holiday classic. I love this field trip. We encourage the kids to dress nicely for their “trip to the theater”, and we talk about how to use our good theater manners. Thanks to parents for signing and returning the permission slips. I am only missing a few children’s. If you have not already done so, please return either the white original or yellow follow up permission slip sent home. I want everyone to be able to attend this field trip! Progress Reports were sent home through CTLS Parent message last Wednesday. Thank you to those parents who read through them and completed the acknowledgement form. If I did not yet receive that from you, I sent out an individual message this morning. Please read over your child’s progress report and click on the link to acknowledge that you have received it. Any questions can be submitted through this form. Thanks! Thank you to everyone who supported Acworth Elementary and our Warrior Fun Run. I will attach some pictures I took as I ran and walked the laps with our class on Friday. Our school raised over $12,000 and the kids can’t wait to SLIME our PRINCIPALS!!! That was the big school reward. But our class also earned several class rewards for our own Pledge-o-Meter totals. Our class had over $40 per lap of donations. Next week (when we return), we will enjoy the following class rewards:
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day. There are no water fountains in the building for them to drink from during the day. The school does not provide cups for water. We’re in need of more tissues for the classroom. We had a great stockpile when the school year began…but fall allergies have steadily depleted our supply. We’ve had quite a lot of runny noses and a LOT of nose blowing! If you are able to send in any tissues to replenish our supply, it would be greatly appreciated! Your children and their noses would be grateful 😊.

Thank you for your patience last week, as I was out of town due to my family emergency. My father had a heart attack and was in ICU for 6 days. Fortunately, he is doing better now, out of ICU and even moved to a rehab facility today. What a difference a week makes! I flew up in the middle of the night Saturday and stayed until the situation was no longer as severe, arriving home Friday night. I missed Halloween, the Braves winning the World Series (though I watched from New Hampshire), and mostly I missed my kids (at home and at school). It is definitely good to be home! I understand from the other 2nd grade teachers that my kiddos at school were doing great! I was so relieved to see that they had the same substitute every day. She would even have been there Friday, had school not been cancelled for the Braves win. It seems it was a bit of a crazy week, even without my absence, with having both Tuesday and Friday off. This week will be a normal week with 5 full days of school! And next week will also mark the middle of the 2nd quarter, meaning that progress reports will go home the following week. This week, we have another lesson in the library and another chance to take out books, so be sure to return any that you have read so you can check out new ones. We will also be doing another experiment in the science lab...and this one involves cookies! I missed our STEM experiment last week, and I'm looking forward to the kids telling me all about how it turned out. While I was gone most of the week, I know the temperature has been fluctuating, and continues to do so. Please be sure to dress your child for whatever weather is expected each day, even if that means in layers. A sweatshirt in the backpack is always a good backup plan! |
