We had a blast enjoying our ice cream party on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get pictures of everyone eating (to see the pictures, visit CTLS Parent or CTLS Learn). By the time I’d served the last folks, the first ones were finished eating! But trust me, there were smiles all around! Our compliments candy jar has now been emptied and I’ve “upped the ante”. Last time it was 10 compliment intervals to earn each reward…but they were just too good and earned it too fast 😉. So now, our first reward will take 10 compliments, our second will be 15 more, and our last will take another 20 (for a total of 45 compliments).
In contrast to our ice cream party, this week is Healthy Choices week. Each day there is a theme. I hope your kids enjoy participating in each fun day:
We have entered the season of jackets in the morning and t-shirts in the afternoon. This is my favorite season…but also difficult for planning our kids’ outfits. My advice: LAYERS! Your child will want that jacket at 7am…but definitely not at 2pm. And they might even forget the jacket at school…so label everything! I also suggest packing a sweatshirt in their bags. Very often, the kids get a little chilly during the day as they go from one activity to the next. When this happens, they will go grab their jackets and cozy up. The problem is that jackets are large and bulky and make working more difficult. And when kids cozy up in their jackets, they have a tendency to get sleepy…and that definitely doesn’t help their work! Having a sweatshirt in their bag means they can pull out a normal layer to put on and keep being productive learning! Our Warrior Way focus this past week was Patience. This is a BIGGIE in 2nd grade. It is hard to be patient. It is hard to wait to have our needs met…wait to have a turn…and wait to be called on. This is something we work on every day…and will all year. Not everyone can be called on. Sometimes our ideas won’t be heard. And that’s OK. Sometimes the teacher can’t listen to our stories. Sometimes our friends need a little more time to understand what is being taught and to do their work. And we have to be PATIENT! Try to encourage your child when they are showing patience at home. This is a life skill and it takes practice. Thursday, October 7, 2021 Just a quick set of reminders about tomorrow’s field trip to the Cobb Safety Village:
Be sure to ask your child all about the trip on Thursday afternoon 😊. Welcome back families! I hope that everyone had a good break, whether it was restful or adventurous. We have an exciting week ahead of us. We start our week back with two birthdays: Miracle’s birthday was yesterday (Saturday) and Riley’s is today (Sunday). And next Sunday (10/10) will be Santi’s birthday. On Thursday, we will take our first field trip in FOREVER! I’m looking forward to visiting the Cobb Safety Village in person (as last year, we took a virtual tour). Thank you so much for how quickly you returned the school permission slips. We have all of those turned in. If anyone hasn’t returned the Safety Village forms (their consent form and the homework page), please complete them ASAP and send them back. We need all forms in order for students to attend. Friday of this week, we will take the Reading Inventory assessment. This is a reading assessment we take several times of year to gage the students’ growth in reading. Doing so allows us to continue to adjust our teaching to each student’s level. I am hopeful to see growth in students’ reading levels. I will update you on these RI Lexile levels during our conference at the end of the quarter. Speaking of the end of the quarter and conferences, next week is the last week of the first quarter. During the week of October 18-22, students will have early release each day to allow us to hold virtual conferences during the afternoons. During these Zoom conferences, I will share report cards with you, going over how students are graded this year, and looking at your child’s grades for first quarter. Please see the sign up sheet on CTLS Parent to choose a conference time. These are all scheduled for that early release week, October 18-22, during the afternoons (the times set aside for conferences by the county). Even if we just had a conference before break to discuss your child’s progress, we still need to meet, even if briefly, to go over your child’s report card. Thanks in advance for signing up for a conference! |
